New Year's Resolutions

Welcome 2011!

2010 brought a lot of change to our family - our first babe, a new job for me, and buying our first home. Each of these milestones were truly wonderful experiences, but we will not be repeating any of them in 2011. In 2011 we plan to rest on our laurels as much as possible.

Our joint resolution for 2011 is to use less plastic in our kitchen. We are the people that forget their reusable bags at the grocery store . . . every time. And since we are adding to the landfills by massive amounts by having a child, we are going to try to do our part. I convinced Jason to take on this resolution with me by framing it as a challenge. Could we stop using plastic grocery bags? Not just the big ones, but the ones in the produce aisle too? Could we stop buying milk, eggs, nuts, etc. in plastic containers and go for the cardboard instead? And the big one - could we stop using a plastic liner in our garbage can and try the rinse method?

We shall see!

If you are looking for ways to give up the plastic bags in the bulk and produce sections of the grocery store, check out these: QwertyO Esty site (made by a young women saving for college).

Other resolutions & 2011 predictions:
We rang in the New Year with some of our dearest friends. I am sharing some of the resolutions here just because I thought they were funny and or inspiring.

Resolutions

Mairead: Eat as if I had pre-diabetes. Start running again. Read great books out loud to Truman.

Jason: Ride bike to work 2/week

Others: Run 1/2 mile and be nice, come back to the NW for a visit, , take gym class, lose 20 pounds, run a 1/2 marathon and smoke less cigars, do something thrilling and new and quit smoking and lose 15 pounds, take on new challenges (triathlon, read more, more races), do more yoga.

Predictions

We will not be out of Afghanistan and Seahawks will go 9-7, we will do a girls weekend, Dr. Buck will make plans to move home, Cubs will make an appearance in the World Series, Mairead and N will be pregnant, O will be pregnant, I won't achieve my resolution, a big engagement, my yard will look nice in the summer.

So it will be a treat to revisit these in 12 months. Happy New Year to you!
